Spirit's Earth 2 Quotes

One of the many things I love about Earth 2 is the great dialogue. The following quotes are all the ones I think are really neat. Some of them are deep, some are funny, some are simply well-known to Earth 2 fans as they bring to mind a cute scene. What makes them stand out is how well these statements help to define the characters.

I took great care to take these quotes directly from the television screen.

First Contact
Devon: "One thing I've learned, Dison – I'm all out of friends."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bess: "You can't suspend feelings."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Zero: "Sensors indicate a large labyrinth-like system."
Danziger: "Will a man fit down there?"
Zero: "Yes, but as a Zero unit, I come with a variety of excavation accessories. Of course, they were all stolen."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Devon: "I don't know. Maybe we had no right, Yale. Maybe we're not supposed to go to the end of the universe to save ourselves."
Yale: "Maybe, we just haven't gotten there, yet."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Devon: "We came to this planet a group of strangers. And now we head out, still strangers, but united toward a single purpose, braving this new land. Four days ago, aliens landed on a distant planet, and we are them. Now, we struggle across an unknown planet, an uncharted world, looking all the while for that moment when we must fulfill our promise, and wondering what will stand in our way."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alonzo: "I don't know, Devon. I don't know what kind of promise we made, what kind of price we're gonna have to pay."
Devon: "I don't, either. But I know I'd make it again."
The Man Who Fell to Earth (Two)
Danziger: "Been here three days, and some strange part of me longs for the space stations. I have no idea why. There was no "there" there. Nothin' was real. Even in my own bed, my own unit never felt like I was home. Wanted to run away and start over with a whole new hand. Twenty-two light years from nowhere, some planet dancin' circles around some scorchin' sun, and me – some nomad on a six-wheeled camel, lookin' for shade. Huh. Not exactly the new hand I was lookin' to be dealt."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Bess: "Morgan, we didn't have Yales where I grew up – we had school."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Morgan: "Do you think I went to hell?"
O'Neill: "I think you just weren't ready to die yet, Martin."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Gaal: "And we were craven, Commander! Only, I was just a tad more craven than the others! I won the survival contest!"
Life Lessons
Devon: "I just like to know the people I don't trust, Danziger."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Morgan: "I can't take this, Bess. Not two years of this. Horses magically popping out of cans, no real food, no decent toilets!"
Bess: "I don't mind it."
Morgan: "Why do you say things like that, Bess? To drive me crazy?"
Natural Born Grendlers
Bess: "Well – aren't you the most interestin'-looking fella?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Alonzo: "I am all alone on this stupid planet, in the middle of nowhere. And I think I'm going crazy. What am I gonna do?"
Lydia: "You'll live, just like the rest of us."
Alonzo: "Where did she go?"
Lydia: "She became me. She got married, she had children, she...she had a life. And she grew old."
Alonzo: "I am not made for that part of life."
Lydia: "Which part, love?"
Alonzo: "The growing old part!"
Lydia: "But that's all there is! The seconds, the minutes, the hours, the years. Believe that it's a beautiful ride, better than – better than any flight you've ever taken!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Morgan: "There's only so much reality a man can take!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Morgan: "You know, Bess, I think that your father would have wanted you to use this geolock to stake a claim. Have a mine of your own."
Bess: "Morgan, we have to share this with everyone."
Morgan: "Sure – why is that again?"
Promises, Promises
Morgan: "What does it matter what promises we made? I'm a lawyer, in case they sue!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alonzo: "Looks like the place. I recognize it from the dreams."
Morgan: "What? What do you recognize? These rocks? These rocks look like the same rocks we've been passing all night!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Devon: "Is he any better?"
Julia: "No. But his rate of deterioration has slowed."
Devon: "Well, that's an improvement, isn't it?"
Julia: "I suppose."
Devon: "Then he's better."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
True: "I think there's no such thing as good and bad. Not on this planet."
Danziger: "Oh, yeah? Then how come you're so scared of that Terrian?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Danziger: "Every digger on this planet could get croaked, and I could care less. But your son is one of us. Nothin' else matters. What's the matter, that offend you?"
Devon: "No. It frightens me."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gaal: "The pettiness of murder has lost its charm – I plateaued years ago."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Alonzo: "If you'd told me a month ago that I'd be cryin' over a dead alien, I'd probably punch your lights out. But that's the thing about this planet – it never lets you stay the same...Julia says biologically, we have more in common with a mosquito than we do with a Terrian. But something tells me we have more in common than any of us knows."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
True: "What do you think made Gaal so bad?"
Danziger: "I don't know."
True: "Do you think he was lying the whole time? He said there was magic here."
Danziger: "No. I think that part might have been true."
Memory Play
Devon: "On this planet, we are a new generation of pioneers, moving westward as fast as we can, trying to outrun our own dangers – I'd like to think dangers less likely to hit a moving target. And while I push us forward, I can't help thinking of the one danger we can't outrun – the danger within."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Morgan: "You don't think that that's a symptom of the disease, do you?"
Yale: "Oh, I really don't know, Morgan. It's a mysterious ailment."
Morgan: "My God – can't you be a little more comforting?"
Yale: "I'm sorry, no. I suppose I can say you're only suffering from extreme guilt-induced paranoia. But then again, I'm not a doctor – am I?"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Morgan: "Grendler? If you're out there, uh, I'm sorry I, you know, shot at you the other day. I'm kind of prone to irrational behavior."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Devon: "And now we put the nightmares of the past behind us, taking solace in the fact that it was not the planet which was making us sick, but the planet that healed us. Yes, with time, the memories will fade away. But that doesn't mean any of us will ever forget."
Water
Devon: "Actually, I issued payroll on departure. Back on the stations, you are already debt-free."
Danziger: "Oh, yeah? Then how come here on planet G889, you still act like the boss?"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alonzo: "You know, it's amazing – the nastier you get, the more I like you!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Julia: "Perhaps you've overestimated your importance in the grand scheme of human events by assuming that every woman feels something when they're in your presence."
Church of Morgan
Julia: "It's like fear of the dark when you're young. Only now being old enough to know the dark is real, and it's coming after you. And maybe – just maybe – it is you."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Julia: "I'm going to run a test on the boy, analyze some spinal fluid."
Reilly: "Why is that?"
Julia: "Because I'm not about to harvest organs on a random guess by some maniac with a sharp spoon."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Morgan: "Man wasn't meant to live alone, boys. Aw, sure, we think of ourselves as pillars of strength, tall oaks reaching for the heavens. But I'll tell ya, there's nothing like the love of a woman. It will see you through the darkest nights, the deepest plagues, feeds you when you want to die, and cleans your socks when you think there's nothing left to live for."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Julia: "If the change starts with the Syndrome children, it's an evolutionary step."
Reilly: "And if we don't have the ability to harness this evolutionary change? How would you recommend to the Council we maintain control of this planet?"
Julia: "Maybe we all better face the fact the those Syndrome children – those outcasts of the stations – will have a very powerful position on this planet. And there's probably very little you or I could ever do about it."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Bess: "Well, he made an offer at a hundred years!"
Morgan: "She countered with forever."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Julia: "We've had more success than any animal in the universe controlling life. We create it artificially. We mimic it with computers. Yet we still don't know what it is that really makes it tick – what keeps life lunging forward, desperately screaming for survival. What drives us to chase ourselves off our own planet onto floating cans in space, and then finally across the universe to start again in someone else's home? Maybe there are some things we'll never know. And maybe the key is to know what those things are, and to leave them alone."
The Enemy Within
Reilly: "You must tell me where you are, so that we can come and collect the child. Who knows – when you do, maybe the Council will name an entire continent after your family!"
Julia: "Yeah. Maybe they'll call it, "Hell."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Reilly: "My, my – we have a bit of an edge, today."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Julia: "I saw my dark side, and it was more frightening than I ever imagined."
Redemption
ZED: "I have no John Danziger. That name is not on the manifest."
Danziger: "Oh, then it's all a mistake and I can go home!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Devon: "We come to this planet hoping to give humanity a second chance, and we found our first test in offering as much to one of our own. It wasn't going to be easy, starting over, trusting Julia again. But maybe that's what separates us from Reilly and his kind – we believe in the value of human life, and we knew that Julia deserved a second chance."
Moon Cross
Alonzo: "Bring Uly here? His mother might have somethin' to say about that."
Mary "This is his mother!"
Alonzo: "You want to tell Devon that yourself?"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alonzo: "And the chance for making a better home was where it belonged. In the hands of all living species, we share this second Earth."
Better Living Through Morganite, part 1
Morgan: "Bess, look, since we got to this hellish planet I have been tied up, shot at, poisoned, and pronounced dead! Now after all of that, I am not going to go home with nothing but a few good anecdotes!
Better Living Through Morganite, part 2
Morgan: "The gains we make are fragile."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Mary: "Terrians don't talk to find truth. We listen."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Devon: "John, listen to me. The only chance Yale's got, the only chance any of us have, is if we teach the Terrians to trust us. Look, I know you want to help, so John, please help me by showing them that there's a lot more to us than meets the eye."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Alonzo: "I know you understand, Mary. Being human means seeing many sides. Make them see our side. You'll be helping them, too."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yale: "The truth is never that simple."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Yale: "It's frightening to go back to your buried past, but you have shown me that it's better to know."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Devon: "You're alive!"
Yale: "Much more than you think."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Morgan: "It's an extraordinary new world, and survival is simply a question of whether we can reach deep enough to find the extraordinary in ourselves."
Grendlers in the Myst
Whelan: "You have the knowledge – and I will rip it from your soul to find her!"
Morgan: "Ripping would be excessive."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Danziger: "I don't know if you wanna get that close."
Julia: "To a wounded animal? I have enough trouble working on wounded humans."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Danziger: "I'd always thought that when True was the right age, I'd introduce her to her mother. I'd arranged enough credits to keep her on support until then. That way, if True wanted to, she could opt for the STIM program – maybe get a little glimpse of what her mother had been. And maybe that would be enough for a girl who had every ounce of her mother's spirit in her eyes."
The Greatest Love Story Never Told
Alonzo: "It seems like Terrians, but it's not."
Morgan: "What's that supposed to mean? You seem coherent, but you're not."
Brave New Pacifica
Julia: "If you're gonna just jump into an absolute vaccuum, you'd have to hope that it would put you out pretty quickly, because after about six seconds, biologically, you'd just explode."
Alonzo: "Are you flirting with me?"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Devon: "If I didn't know you were skewed against it, I'd say you were having an emotionally charged reaction, Dr. Heller!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Alonzo: "I mean, there's a woman who's all loving and giving..."
Danziger: "Hey, you wanna give it a rest?"
Alonzo: "...a woman should be held and caressed..."
Danziger: "That's enough."
Alonzo: "...passionate, fiery. I just wanna reach her."
POW!
Devon: "What happened?"
Danziger: "Uh, he, uh, had a relapse."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Devon: "We still have a very long way to go."
Danziger: "Yeah. It won't be so bad gettin' there."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Julia: "I can't help but feel sorry for it. So much attraction raging across such a distance to find its opposite. It's hard to imagine."
Alonzo: "No, it's not."
After the Thaw
Baines: "I'm not much for dead things."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alonzo: "They told me to return, and somehow I knew the only way to fight the demon's anger was to release my own. I could let go and be free, so the planet's power flowed through me."
The Boy Who Would be Terrian King
Max: "I've recently drafted a new treaty which entitles us to an additional 10,000 hectares and repairian rights to the Upper Morgan River. You sign this on behalf of the Terrians, and I'll grant you a full pardon."
Ulysses: "I think you know what you can do with your treaty."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Ulysses: "You know, there are times when you get the feeling that growing up isn't such a good thing."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ulysses: "You know, it's a funny thing about grown-ups – sometimes you just can't understand what's going on inside their heads."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Ulysses: "I could tell Mom was scared, even though she was trying not to act like it. But she always believed in me, no matter what – so I believed in me, too."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ulysses: "Nothing can compete with that voice inside your heart that puts me first! It's the only thing I knew I could trust. That, and knowing that you'd never stay mad at me forever!"
Devon: "Don't be so sure! A mother never forgets, you know."
Survival of the Fittest
Bess: "Devon, have you ever seen anyone starve to death? Have you ever watched anyone trying to eat dirt, trying to suck the moisture out of mud?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Walman: "Stupid, smart, what's the difference? We have a right to defend ourselves!"
Alonzo: "It doesn't mean we can blast our way across the planet!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Baines: "Hold on – I mean, what if it had been one of us? Would it be okay, to – sheesh – eat us?"
Walman: "It's not the same! It was just an animal."
Devon: "We have no way of knowing which are the superior life forms on this planet."
Baines: "How can you say that? I mean, how can you compare us to it?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Danziger: "In the last 200 years, we've formed some pretty good theories about the origins of emotions. Now, halfway across the universe, we stumble around on this new planet finding that we know so little about what makes us human – what makes our hearts shiver with grief, our chests pound with fear, and why is it that a species so different from us can possess these same feelings we hold so essential to humankind."
Flower Child
Morgan: "We're headed back to civilization – static loft mattresses, auto-tropic temp control, and 5,000 channels of omnistimulation!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bess: "I've never been stronger!"
Morgan: "No offense, but you look like hell!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Bess: "You know what I feel, Morgan?"
Morgan: "Like taking a breather?"
All About Eve
Reilly: "Anyway, it seems that we've been overamplifying the little buggers, and they're giving you all headaches. Terribly embarrassed about all this."
Julia: "You're embarrassed? Reilly, we're dying! We've already lost one crew member!"
Reilly: "You know, Julia, I really hate it when you nag!...I-I've lost my ball. I have to go."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Elizabeth: "It's a difficult moment when you realize you don't know everything, isn't it?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Julia: "I thought I knew who I was, but I really didn't until I got here. It's so beautiful here. It's just so much more than I ever thought it was gonna be. No matter how hard it's been, no matter how much we've lost, I think it was worth it."
